Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove loose abdominal skin and tighten the abdominal muscles to regain a flatter tone free of excess skin above and below the belly button.

You may benefit from abdominoplasty if you experience:

Localized areas of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise

Trimming excess tissue and tightening muscle laxity in the abdominal wall, a tummy tuck reduces the protruding or fold of abdominal skin, both above and below the belly button.  Ideal candidates for the procedure include:

People in good general health who want a flatter abdominal profile and a more aesthetically pleasing contour over the hips.

People who have undergone substantial weight loss and now have excess skin.  You should be close to your ideal weight before the procedure as results may be lost if you experience significant weight gain or loss after your abdominoplasty.

What is the difference between full abdominoplasty and mini-abdominoplasty?

Full abdominoplasty is removal of excess skin of the abdomen resulting in correction of loose skin above and below the belly button.  The incision is made low on the waist, below the hips, and mobilizes all of the soft tissue over the muscle wall of the abdomen.  The abdominal muscles are tightened eliminating laxity of the muscle wall.  The belly button is preserved and brought through the flap of tissue that is pulled to the waist for closure.

Mini-abdominoplasty eliminates loose skin of the abdomen and laxity of the muscle wall below the belly button only.  The incision is made low on the waist, below the hips, and is often shorter than a full abdominoplasty incision.  The muscle is tightened below the belly button to the waist line.  This procedure is perfect for patients on demonstrating laxity below the belly button level.
