Soft Tissue Fillers

Soft tissue fillers are a nonsurgical solution for achieving a refreshed, youthful, appearance. They are a simple and effective way to make your aesthetic goals a reality. At Cedar Rock Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, Board Certified Plastic Surgeons Dr. James Fowler and Dr. Wes Culpepper personally administer all soft tissue filler treatments to ensure you achieve the best results possible.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are FDA-approved substances that are injected into the deep layers of the skin and below for cosmetic purposes.  These fillers are often substances naturally produced by the body that have been reproduced in a lab for injection.  Also known as soft tissue fillers, they work by adding natural-looking volume to the treated areas.

Dermal fillers are used for many purposes, including:

What are fillers and what are biomodulators?

Fillers differ from each other by their formulations, cross linking, softness, and durability. Dermal fillers utilize hyaluronic acid, a water retaining molecule naturally present in your skin. These products are injected into the deep layers of the skin to plump and enhance the overlying skin to reduce deep lines or enlarge the lips. Others contain synthetic ingredients that are biocompatible, proven by years of use in surgery. These include biomodulators such as Sculptra that are injected into the deep layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production to provide volume to the soft tissues and tone the skin. Regardless of their ingredients, all fillers work to add volume and support to your skin. Volume loss and redistribution are universal results of aging. Soft tissue fillers have been demonstrated to effectively restore lost volume to areas of need in the lower face.

What are the benefits of soft tissue fillers?

Millions of men and women receive filler injections every year. They are an incredibly popular choice for nonsurgical rejuvenation. People gravitate towards fillers because they offer significant benefits such as:

Fillers are an excellent choice if you want to rejuvenate your appearance without resorting to surgery.  These easy treatment options are more affordable and less invasive than facelift surgery.

Soft tissue fillers are very effective ways to treat:

Lip lines

Lip augmentation (increasing the definition of the upper and/or lower lips and restoring lost volume)

Jowls

Loss of volume of the midface (restoring volume that has fallen, contributing to all of the lines listed above)

Hollows of the cheeks with weight loss or age

Our dermal filler options include Juvederm and Voluma.  Our biomodulator is Sculptra. There are a number of dermal fillers on the market, each with specific advantages and considerations. The best dermal filler for you will depend on your specific problem area and skin condition, among other considerations. Consultation with your plastic surgeon or aesthetician will determine your goals and set a treatment plan.

Treatment in the office is short, and recovery may extend 5-14 days.  You may experience redness, mild swelling of the injected areas, nodules of the skin, bruising, or local skin reaction to injection.  Results can last 9-18 months, depending on the product used and the location injected.
