Botox Cosmetic

Aging and the accumulated effects of involuntary muscle actions in your face contribute to the formation of creases, wrinkles and lines that can make you look tired, angry or older than you really are.

Botox Cosmetic is the most popular treatment for visibly reducing lines and wrinkles of the face leaving you with a refreshed, natural looking appearance.  Board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. James Fowler and Dr. Wes Culpepper, have a surgical knowledge of facial anatomy and know how the proper administration of Botox Cosmetic will affect you individually.  They will personally administer all injectable treatments to ensure optimal results.

What is Botox used to treat?

Botox Cosmetic is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the cosmetic reduction of lines of the upper face including:

Although Botox Cosmetic is safe for most patients, it is not suitable for everyone.  Consultation with our plastic surgeons or one of our aestheticians will determine if Botox Cosmetic is the best option for you based on your condition, features, desired outcome, skin type, and overall health.

Botox Cosmetic is generally effective at reducing visible facial wrinkles and lines in both female and male patients.  The treatment is not approved for those under 18, and its use should be avoided during pregnancy.

How does Botox work?

An acronym for botulinum toxin type A, Botox Cosmetic is a neurotoxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria.  It suppresses muscle contractions that cause wrinkles and lines by temporarily inactivating the nerve fibers responsible for muscle activity.  With a very tiny needle, Botox Cosmetic is injected into the muscle below the affected area.  The procedure is brief, usually 10 minutes, and involves no surgery or recovery time.  Most patients do not experience any pain beyond minor injection site discomfort that resolves fully in minutes.

The results of Botox Cosmetic are rapid, appearing in 3-10 days.  On average, effects last three to four months before full muscle action is regained.  Repeat treatments are required to maintain results.
